Another Milestone of Excellence for MAS

The Victoria’s Secret journey has been a long one for MAS and it has been the cornerstone of our success. Today, we are incredibly proud to say that we have been awarded the L Brands Supplier Ownership Program Achievement Award. This award recognizes our excellence in compliance with standards for internal controls and management systems set by L Brands, the organization behind Victoria’s Secret.

MAS Bodyline and Intimate Fashions India have both been rated at 97% by L Brands, identifying us as one of the giant’s best suppliers. We are incredibly honoured to now be counted among only four other global suppliers to receive such recognition.

Beyond Recognition

Winning the L Brands Supplier Ownership Program Achievement Award is more than simple recognition or a feather in our cap. It also now means that L Brands has fully placed its faith in our own Compliance Team to conduct all necessary future compliance assessments and meet required standards with no need for 3rd parties. This underscores the extent of trust that L Brands has placed in us. It is a major responsibility for us and one that we are honoured to undertake.

While we are proud and rejoice in the achievement of this award, we also take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to continuing to excel in this space as a partner and strategic supplier to L Brands. We are also equally committed to developing our existing partnerships with all our clients across the board and providing them with unmatched excellence and quality, which has now been attested to by one of the most respected fashion retailers in the world.

We would also like to express our gratitude to L Brands for selecting us for this award and proceeding with their awarding processes despite difficult times as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic. We are grateful and inspired to have received this recognition despite an adverse global environment.

Victoria’s MAS Secret

The MAS-Victoria’s Secret story goes all the way back to the very early days of MAS, when it was still a fledgling business looking to make its way. Restricted by the quota systems and the culture of strictly family owned businesses during the 1980s, Mahesh Amalean and his brothers decided to break out of the status quo.

The journey began when the then new MAS decided to enter into a partnership with an American business associate, Martin Trust; a big break with tradition for Sri Lankan apparel businesses at the time. Mahesh then realized that, while quotas were imposed on outerwear, intimate-wear had no quotas in Sri Lanka. In fact, there was no one involved in intimate-wear at the time, as it was a niche industry with high barriers to entry.

But this only inspired Mahesh Amalean to take a big risk and go all out and make a pitch for intimate-wear and try to break into what was, at the time, a new area for Sri Lanka. Thus, Mahesh and Martin made their pitch to Victoria’s Secret, a daring and bold move at the time, and they won it!

From an initial trial order of just 3,000 units, MAS has since pushed the envelope and challenged every established norm to transform Sri Lanka from “not being involved in intimate-wear at all”, to becoming one of the largest manufacturers, globally. What MAS has achieved can only be described as phenomenal and that is because we simply never take no for an answer. Therefore, we are extremely proud of our partnership with L Brands and look forward to continuing to provide only the highest quality products to all our clients.
